Honoring a Music Icon: Daddy Lumba’s Legacy.

The late Daddy Lumba was more than a musician – he was a cultural icon whose works touched millions across Ghana and the diaspora. Born on 29th September 1964, Charles Kwadwo Fosu rose to become one of the greatest highlife musicians the nation has ever known. With a career spanning over three decades, Daddy Lumba blessed the industry with timeless hits such as Theresa, Yentie Obiaa, Sika Asem, and Aben Wo Ha.

His music was not only entertaining but also thought-provoking, often addressing real-life issues, love, relationships, and social values. He had a unique ability to blend traditional highlife rhythms with modern influences, making his sound appealing across generations.

For this reason, it is no surprise that his One Week Observation is expected to draw thousands of mourners, including prominent personalities in politics, business, entertainment, and religious circles, alongside fans who loved him dearly.

Why the Venue Was Changed

Initially, the One Week Observation was planned at a smaller venue. However, following the overwhelming outpour of love and the anticipated massive attendance, organizers decided to move the event to a much larger and more accessible location.

The Black Star Square (Independence Square) in Accra is symbolic, not just for its size but also for its historical significance. Known for hosting national events, festivals, and state occasions, the venue represents unity and national pride. Holding Daddy Lumba’s observation there highlights his status as a national treasure whose influence went beyond music into the very identity of Ghana.

Program and Expectations

The One Week Observation on Saturday, 30th August 2025, will be a solemn yet celebratory gathering. Friends, family, colleagues, and fans will come together to reflect on Daddy Lumba’s life, his achievements, and his lasting impact on Ghanaian culture.

The program is expected to feature:

Prayers and tributes from family and close associates.

Musical performances by fellow highlife and gospel musicians honoring his legacy.

Testimonies and eulogies from industry stakeholders and dignitaries.

Cultural displays that reflect Daddy Lumba’s roots and his love for Ghanaian tradition.

As with many Ghanaian funerary traditions, the One Week Observation will not only be a mourning ceremony but also a moment of thanksgiving for the life of a man who gave so much through his music.

A Call for Unity and Respect

In this period of grief, the family and organizers are appealing for cooperation from the public. They urge all attendees to respect the sanctity of the occasion, follow directions from security and ushers at the venue, and participate peacefully in honoring the memory of Daddy Lumba.

Fans across Ghana and beyond are also encouraged to use the opportunity to reflect on the values Daddy Lumba preached through his music: love, perseverance, hard work, and unity.

A Message of Gratitude

The family of Daddy Lumba expresses heartfelt gratitude for the continuous support, love, and prayers received since his passing. They acknowledge the immense role fans, colleagues, and the media have played in celebrating his legacy and ensuring that his music continues to inspire generations.

The date remains unchanged – Saturday, 30th August 2025.

The new venue is Black Star Square, Accra, Ghana.

Your presence, prayers, and support will mean a lot to the family and the entire music fraternity as Ghana comes together to celebrate the life of one of its greatest legends.

The One Week Observation of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) will be more than just a mourning event; it will be a national moment of reflection and celebration. Moving the event to Black Star Square ensures that everyone who wishes to pay their respects will have the opportunity to do so in a fitting environment.
