Pastor Emmanuel Ahenkan Bonsu, the former husband of Ghanaian gospel musician Esther Smith, has opened up about the circumstances he believes led to the collapse of their marriage years after their highly publicised divorce.
Speaking in a recent interview on Power FM, Pastor Ahenkan alleged that Esther Smith had a child outside their marriage and named the child after a man based abroad during a naming ceremony held in a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church without his knowledge.
According to him, he only became aware of the event after friends who attended the ceremony informed him. He claimed that the incident significantly damaged trust in their relationship and contributed to the eventual breakdown of the marriage.
He said this contributed to the breakdown of their relationship when he was told by friends who were in the church when the naming ceremony happened.
However, Esther Smith has denied the claims. She said instead that she experienced domestic abuse and neglect during the marriage, which forced her to leave to protect herself and her children.
